Amer Fort
Covering an area of 4 square kilometers, Amer is a town located at a distance of 11 kilometers from the capital city of Jaipur. The Amer Fort is located in that quaint town of Amer in the state of Rajasthan. The most sought after tourist destination in the town and surrounding cities like Jaipur, Amer Fort is located on top of a high hill.
Ruled by the great Raja Man Singh 1, it was initially founded and built by Meenas. The fort is famous for its brilliant art and Hindu-influenced elements; it is a priority destination for artists and historians from all over the world. With huge gates lining and protecting the boundaries, one can look at the captivating Maota Lake that is adjacent to the fort’s premises. The only source of water for the Palace of Amer, Lake Maota is regarded in high esteem by the locals.
The fort has been made to stand on beautiful red sandstone and pure marble, making it an attractive site for tourists. The four levels of the palace come with their respective courtyards. The castle is structured to house a Diwan-i-aam that is built for the public audience, Diwan-i-khas for a private audience, a mirror palace called the Sheesh Mahal and the Sukh Niwas where winds cross over a water cascade inside the palace premises. Rajput Maharajas resided in the mansion for years.
In 2013, Amer Fort, along with five other forts of Rajasthan, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the group Hill Forts of Rajasthan, in the Cambodia session.
