Udaipur
Upon being visited in 1829 by colonel James Todd, East India company’s first political agent, the title of ‘the most romantic spot on the continent of India’ was awarded to Udaipur. And rightly so, as history suggests. There is a multiplicity of vibrant hues and folklore that influence the city and have not faded in all these years. Despite the boon of civilization and technology, the heritage of Rajasthan remains intact.
Founded by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559, Udaipur is one of the most renowned cities in the culturally rich state of Rajasthan, famous for its iconic artificial lakes and grand palaces. Captivating tourists year after year with its magic, and home to the Royal Mewar family, the City Palace is a magnificent complex edging the unique allure of Lake Pichola. Applauded for its peacock mosaics, the area around the lake comprises of 11 palaces, courtyards and lush gardens.
Famously known as the ‘Venice of the East,’ Udaipur is one of the most sought-after travel destinations for tourists trying to explore the beauty of North India, especially during the chilly months of winter. Don’t forget to calm those sore eyes with the blinding light of shimmering lakes and the exquisite Mughal-style palaces that surround them, great boat rides, delicious food and the spirit of a culture that is like no other.
